Ronnie Arnold, age 86, of Meyer, Illinois, passed away at 9:51 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Ronnie was born on September 13, 1939, in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Russell and Helen (Jackson) Arnold. He attended Unity High School. He married Susan Humphrey on February 7, 1992, in Quincy. She survives.
Ronnie dedicated his entire career to life on the road as a professional truck driver. Over six decades, he covered several million miles, earning a host of Million-mile safe-driving awards along the way. He drove for McNay Trucking until his retirement in 2003. Even after retiring, Ronnie continued to lend a hand during the fall harvest and drove for Mark Weise at the Adwell Corporation. Throughout his life, providing for his family remained Ronnie’s top priority, and his remarkable tenure behind the wheel was a testament to his unwavering work ethic and commitment to those he cared about most.
In his younger years, Ronnie enjoyed racing at Scottie’s, driving car No. 31, and remained a NASCAR fan throughout his life. He was also a die-hard Shuffleboard player. At home, Ronnie could often be found splitting wood, babysitting his grandchildren, or relaxing on the swing with his dogs, Georgia, Nelly, Cotton, Phoebe, and Bella. He was formerly a member of the South Side Boat Club and Rocky Point Club.
In addition to his wife, Susie, Ronnie is survived by two daughters, Stephanie (Mathew) Hawkins of Quincy and Rhonda Hess of Quincy; his grandchildren, Katie (Jacobi) Sigler, Hannah Cain, Abigayle Cain, Micah Hess, Stevie (Cody) Bainter, Brandon Arnold, and Nickie (Ryan) Schaffer; 12 great-grandchildren; Numerous nieces, nephews, and friends also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cindy Campbell; son, Ricky Arnold; grandson, Travis Kendrick; granddaughter, Danielle Hess; and siblings Charlene Smith, Betty Mayfield, Russell Arnold, and Norman “Baldy” Arnold.
According to his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. There will be no visitation or funeral services. Memorials contributions can be made to the family, please make checks payable to his wife.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Blessing Hospice and to Carson, Joni, and Matt for the care and kindness shown to Ronnie and his family.
