Marjorie May Cassens Hyer, 94, of Quincy, Illinois, formerly of Mendon, Illinois, passed away at 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at Sunset Home in Quincy.

She was born at home in Golden, Illinois, on May 26, 1932, a daughter of Henry and Pauline (Weerts) Cassens.

She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church and married there to Jack Hyer on January 30, 1955.

Marjorie graduated from Golden Central High School and attended Carthage College. Throughout her working years, she was employed by the Adams County Home Extension Office, Unit District No. 4, First Bankers Trust and Four Star Library.

Marjorie was a member of the Mendon Congregational Church, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. Her faith was an important part of her life.

Marjorie found great joy in caring for her family and showing her love through the things she made for them. She was a wonderful baker and was especially known for her homemade cookies and pecan pie. She also enjoyed crocheting, creating beautiful baby blankets that became treasured keepsakes for those fortunate enough to receive them. Above all, Marge cherished her family and took great pride in being “everybody’s grandma,” a role she embraced with love and a generous heart.

She was the loving mother of three children, Jacalyn Bowen of Mt. Sterling, Illinois, Janna Lockman (friend Ricky Dulaney), and Jon Hyer both of Quincy.

Marjorie was blessed with nine grandchildren, Carol Harris, P.J. Bowen, Sarah Moore, Richard “Butch” Bowen, Doug Bowen, David Brink, Bridgette Lockman, Lindsey Frese and Cassie Rabe; and six great-grandchildren.

Marjorie loved her Lord and her family dearly. She enjoyed singing, sewing, cooking and reading, and she had a special love for children. Her faith and devotion to her family remained at the center of her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Hyer; her parents, Henry and Pauline Cassens; her sister, Carlene Alhorn; her brother, Wilmer Cassens; son-in-law, Alan Bowen; daughter-in-law, Julie Hyer and a grandson, Butch Bowen.

Funeral Services for Marjorie will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the Mendon Congregational Church, 106 East High Street, Mendon, Illinois. Rev. Ron Tallcott will officiate. Burial will immediately follow at Mendon Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mendon Congregational Church and the Four Star Public Library.
