Lawrence "Bud" Wietholder, 80, of Canton, Missouri, formerly of Mendon, Camp Point, Illinois, and Greentop, Missouri, passed away at 10:40 p.m. on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at the Lewis County Nursing Home in Canton.
Born on August 4, 1945, in Quincy, Illinois, he was the son of Lawrence Frank Wietholder, Sr. and Caroline Elizabeth (Frericks) Wietholder. He married JoAnn Edna Eickelschulte on February 6, 1965, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Quincy. She preceded him in death on September 29, 2006.
Mr. Wietholder was a student at Mendon School and spent his professional life focusing on both crop and livestock farming. He took great pride in operating a diverse farm that included crops, Simmental cattle, quarter horses, and pigs. An avid equestrian, he participated in parades and horseback riding with his family, and enjoyed attending cattle shows, raising colts, and participating in team penning and ranch sorting at local horse shows. Together with JoAnn, he appreciated traveling to Branson, Missouri. Time with his children and grandchildren remained especially meaningful to him.
He was a member of St. Edward The Confessor Catholic Church in Mendon prior to relocating to Camp Point, where he joined St. Thomas. Most recently, he attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Canton. He was a member of the Quincy Saddle Club, American Quarter Horse Association, Adams County Beef Producers, and the American Simmental Association.

He is survived by his four sons: James (Hollie Showalter) Wietholder of Mendon, IL; David (Tanya) Wietholder of Liberty, IL; Jon (Cindy) Wietholder of Williamstown, MO; and Michael Wietholder of Quincy. He also leaves behind three daughters: Elizabeth “Beth” Boylen and her husband Curt of Mt. Sterling, IL; Amy Jo Shrader and her husband Duane of Quincy, IL; and Deborah “Debbie” Fredrick and her husband David of Mendon, IL. His grandchildren include Monte (Catherine) Wietholder, Colton Wietholder, Dakota, Dustin and Dezaree Guthrie, Emily and Drew Wietholder, Faith (Conner) Hutchins, Colin, Grace and Thomas Boylen, Tyler (Abby) Schieferdecker, Katie (Matthew) Asbridge, Lucas (Lakaylee) Schieferdecker, and Kristie (Daryn) Crane. He is also survived by sixteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gerald “Joe” (Darlene) Wietholder and William “Bill” (Darlene) Wietholder; four sisters, Theresa Beeler, Mary Nutt, Clara Johnson, and Rosie Bradney; brother-in-law, Ron Eickelschulte; and his sister-in-law, Margie Eickelschulte; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, spouse, two infant sons, brothers-in-law Gary Bradney, Joe Nutt, Earl Trent, Thomas Eickelschulte, and sisters-in-law Mary Huckstep, Carol, and Susan Eickelschulte.
A Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 1, 2025, at St. Edward The Confessor Catholic Church in Mendon, Illinois. Fr. Scott Snider Officiating. Before the Mass, there will be a prayer service at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Burial will take place immediately after at Calvary Cemetery in Quincy, Illinois.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Triplett Funeral Home in Mendon, ending with the rosary. Memorial contributions in Bud’s honor can be made to Community Living Care Hospice in Bowling Green, Missouri, or to St. Edward’s Catholic Church.
