Charlotte A. Shupe, 83, of Quincy, Illinois and formerly of Ursa, Illinois, passed away on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 1:19 p.m. at Blessing Hospital.

She was born on March 12, 1943, in Loraine, to the late William and Margaret (Kammerer) Bruenger. Charlotte graduated from Unity High School in 1961. She married her high school sweetheart, Raymond “Jim” Shupe on June 2, 1962, and they enjoyed 56 years of marriage before his passing.

Charlotte worked at Sharkey Transportation for many years as a dedicated switchboard operator. During her years of service with Sharkey Transportation, Charlotte had the reputation of being one of the best switchboard operators in the city of Quincy. She was always professional, courteous, discreet when needed, and her expertise at handling the high volume of calls before the evolution of email was astounding. Charlotte was dedicated to the job she performed and took great pride in the way she handled it day after day. She will be remembered fondly by all she worked with.

Charlotte was a passionate sports fan, with a special love for NASCAR, the NFL, and the Kansas City Chiefs. She spent many happy years watching Dale Earnhardt, Richard Petty, Jeff Gordon, and other racing greats compete on the track. Sundays were among her favorite days, often filled with family dinners, good food, football games, and car races. Above all, Charlotte cherished time with her granddaughters, Khloe and Kensi. She loved watching their activities and hearing their stories about everything happening in their lives.

We will always remember Charlotte for her deep compassion, her gentle spirit, that gracious smile that could light up a room, her unwavering loyalty, and the quiet joy she found in her family and life’s simplest pleasures. She brought so much warmth and love into our lives. Though she’s no longer here with us, the kindness she shared and the cherished memories we hold of her will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration.

Charlotte is survived by her son James Shupe and her granddaughters, Khloe Shupe and Kensi Shupe of Liberty, Illinois; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond “Jim” Shupe; her son Allen Shupe; her brother Paul Bruenger and sister Dorothy Stanbridge.

Funeral services for Charlotte will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at J. Otto Funeral Home in Mendon, Illinois. Rev. Bill Mitchell will officiate. Burial will follow at New Providence Cemetery near Ursa, Illinois.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at the J. Otto Funeral Home in Mendon.
